Full Inventory of Sporting Goods Prior to Moving to New Distribution Center

A sporting goods retailer that sells an assortment of products, including shoes and apparel for a large variety sports activities, required the support of RGIS. The retailer have over 1,150 retail stores employing over 76,000 people.

REQUIREMENT
The sporting goods retailer needed an accurate inventory count of the distribution centers in preparation of moving all the inventory to a new larger distribution center, so required RGIS to provide the following:

  • A full count of all inventory
  • Segregate items to aid organization of moving inventory to a new distribution center
  • All items needed to be counted within a 21 day period
  • High accuracy of inventory was a priority

SOLUTION
The sporting goods retailer partnered with RGIS to complete the distribution center inventory move project, and provided the following:

  • Scheduled a team of four experienced RGIS auditors
  • All items were counted, segregated and coded
  • 25% of inventory items were checked for accuracy

RESULTS
The sporting goods retailer found that by outsourcing the distribution center inventory move project to RGIS, the following results were achieved:

  • All items were segregated dependent on the new location
  • Inventory accuracy levels were high
  • Full count completed within the tight time frame given
